Ingredients

This is the most current list of the ingredients we use. It is a synopsis of the things we use, why we use them, and the benefits they may provide to our products and you, the consumer. We encourage our customers to always do their own research or consult with a health care professional should they question whether a product is right for them.

We try our best to use only “nontoxic,” eco-friendly, & bio-degradable ingredients. Keep in mind that these terms are relative wherever you see them. Too much of almost anything, even if it is deemed safe, can be harmful and not everything that is, “natural,” is nontoxic. Our aim is to provide you with the information you need to make healthy decisions for your family about our products and ingredients in general.

Acetic Acid:

Used in many of our cleaning, garden and bug repellent products.

AKA, white vinegar. This versatile ingredient is a natural disinfectant and deodorizer. It can help remove stains and cut through grease and grime. It eats through hard water deposits and is far less harmful than many cleaning agents. White vinegar is a safe alternative to fabric softener in the wash. Use care on certain surfaces, it is after all, an acid.

Aloe Vera Juice/Gel:

Used in many of our hair and skin products.

Where to start!? There are so many good things about Aloe Vera for hair and skin. It moisturizes, soothes irritation, reduces dandruff, improves circulation, adds shine and detangles hair. It helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, promotes the healing of scars and can diminish fine lines. It’s a gentle exfoliator and it’s antibacterial elements combat acne. It can brighten the skin tone while reducing dark spots and naturally helps maintain the skin’s *pH balance.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV):

Used in our garden and outdoor products.

Apple cider vinegar is great for many things. We use it in our bug repellents due to its strong scent and acidic properties.

Argan oil:

Used in some of our hair and skin products.

Argan oil is an excellent moisturizer without leaving a greasy residue. Rich in antioxidants, particularly vitamin E, it helps combat *free radicals and can reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It can be beneficial for conditions like eczema and psoriasis and can help balance oily skin. It offers the strengthening properties of *fatty acids and other nutrients reducing breakage and split ends in hair. It nourishes the scalp and improves blood circulation promoting healthy hair growth.

Avocado Oil:

Used in some hair and skin products.

Contains antioxidants like vitamin C and E. It can help moisturize and reduce inflammation from skin issues. It makes hair more manageable, soft and shiny while adding strength and reducing scalp dryness. It may protect against heat and sun damage while repairing split ends.

Beeswax:

Used in our lip balms.

Beeswax is made up of long chain *fatty acids,* esters, hydrocarbons (and other compounds). It aides in creating a protective barrier on the skin and locks in moisture.

BTMS 50 (Behentrimonium Methosulfate (50%) and Cetyl Alcohol (50%):

Used in some of ourhair and body products.

BTMS 50 is naturally derived from rapeseed oil. It is a *cationic surfactant and emulsifier that helps to blend oil and water formulations. It stabilizes the product and offers moirsturizing, conditioning, detangling and thickening properties. It assists in moisture retention and improved texture of hair. It is suitable for many skin types and is an overall very versatile and helpful ingredient.

Calendula Wax:

Used in some of our lip balms and skin care.

A plant derived wax, calendula wax can minimize stretch marks, hydrate and clear parched, scaly skin. It is a wonderful natural binder for cosmetic ingredients as it spreads well and absorbs nicely into the skin.

Caprylyl Glycol:

A versatile, plant-based skincare ingredient that acts as a moisturizer, emollient, and preservative. It helps improve the texture of lotions and hair products.

Carbomer:

Used in our aloe vera gel products as a thickener. This ingredient is being eliminated from our products and will soon be removed from this list.

Carbomer is a polyacrylic acid used in many pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. It is a thickener & prevents separation.

Citric Acid:

Used in some of our hair, skin and garden products.

Citric acid is an organic acid with many uses. It acts as a natural preservative, a pH regulator and aids in the absorption of minerals. It is a natural cleaner, deodorizer and disinfectant while also softening water. These are just some of the many uses and benefits.

Coconut oil:

Used in hair, skin and lip products.

Known for moisturizing and nourishing properties, it can help hydrate dry skin, reduce inflammation, and even protect against environmental damage. For hair, coconut oil can minimize frizz, reduce breakage, and improve shine. It is anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antibacterial.

-Fractionated Coconut Oil is a type of coconut oil where the fatty acids have been separated, resulting in a clear, colorless liquid form of the oil.

Distilled Water:  

Used in many of our products for home, body and garden.

Free from impurities, minerals and chemicals, using distilled water ensures that the final product is as pure and stable as possible. It is also gentle on the skin reducing the risk of irritation. Many ingredients dissolve better in distilled water and there is less chance of any unexpected reactions from unknown substances.

Essential oils:

We use many essential oils in our product lines. This may not be a comprehensive list of everything we use. We will work on updating this list as is needed to keep our ingredients list current. The efficacy of using essential oils in hair, skin and body products has not been fully tested or supported by the scientific community. We make no grand claims of what essential oils WILL DO for you. This is simply a guide of what the potential could be in utilizing various essential herbs/oils and how and why we utilize them in our products. Please research for yourself. The practice of using herbs for medicinal practices is ancient. What works for some, may not work for others. Discontinue use of ANY product if it causes any irritation to you, your family or pets.

Please choose essential oils from a trusted supplier. It is recommended that most essential oils be diluted with a carrier oil before applying to the skin to avoid irritation. All of our oils are from trusted suppliers.

Bergamot: Has a refreshing citrus aroma with floral notes. Uplifting, stress reducing, antiseptic, astringent, antimicrobial, eases muscle pain, promotes better sleep.

Bhringraj: Known as, “king of herbs,” in Ayurveda, bhringraj is highly regarded for its potential hair and skin benefits. It is believed to promote growth by improving circulation in the scalp and stimulating hair follicles. It is thought to lead to thicker, denser hair strands. It may help with premature greying and is rich in essential nutrients that nourish the hair and make it more manageable. It is soothing and anti-inflammatory reducing redness and discomfort on the skin. It is anti-microbial and helps protect the skin from free radicals and oxidative stress which can help prevent fine lines and wrinkles. It may help heal minor wounds and burns and can reduce the appearance of dark spots, blemishes and scars.

Cedarwood: Stimulates hair follicles, promoting growth and possibly reducing hair loss. It helps regulate *sebum production—good for dry and oily scalps. It soothes with anti-inflammatory properties and it can help strengthen and reduce breakage promoting overall healthy hair.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon is naturally antimicrobial. It helps balance oil production. It is rich in antioxidants and improves blood circulation. It is antifungal and a natural bug repellent.

Citronella: Well known for it’s ability to repel insects, it can also promote relaxation and reduce stress. It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.

Clary Sage: Clary sage has many health benefits for skin. It can regulate *sebum production, prevent the growth of bacteria and infections with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial elements. It tightens and firms the skin, adding elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Clove: Clove oil is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and is rich in antioxidants that combat *free radicals. It can enhance blood flow and create a healthier looking complexion. It can help remove dead skin cells with gentle exfoliation and reduce the signs of aging.

Eucalyptus: Offers respiratory relief due to congestion, it helps open airways. Eucalyptus is also antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. The strong scent is an effective bug repellent.

Fenugreek: An herb widely used in traditional medicine for its potential skin and hair benefits. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, protein and antioxidants. It can act as a natural cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer and anti-aging agent in skin care. It can also help fade blemishes and dark circles evening and smoothing skin tone. In hair care it can promote growth, reduce hair fall-out, aid in healing the scalp and dandruff while improving texture and strength, leaving hair soft, silky and shiny. It might even help prevent premature graying of hair.

Frankicense: This oil can help stimulate the regeneration of healthy skin cells, aiding in scar, blemish and stretch mark recuction. It can help tone and tighten the skin improving overall texture. The scent can have a calming, mood lifting effect and it can enhance mental clarity.

Geranium: Helps balance oil production, good for most skin types. Has astringent, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. It can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, promotes hair growth, control dandruff and reduce frizz. Aides in repelling insects.

Ginger: This oil can stimulate blood circulation, promoting a healthy glow and can aide in the healing of scars and blemishes. It is anti-inflammatory reducing redness and swelling associated with acne or eczema and has antioxidants that can help protect against *free radicals and environmental stressors.

Grapefruit Oil: Helps protect against *free radicals and contains astringent elements that can help tighten the skin, reduce the appearance of pores and control excess oil production. It can help even out skin tone, enhancing and brightening. It has cleansing properties that help to remove impurities.

Lavender: Lavender is most widely known for its calming effects, helping with stress reduction and restful sleep. It is also soothing and hydrating for the skin and hair and contains antioxidants that help protect from *free radical damage. Antibacterial elements help combat acne-causing bacteria, promoting clearer skin.

Lemon-Eucalyptus: Great in bug repellents. Promotes relaxation and can help relieve respiratory issues and minor aches and pains.

Lemongrass: Natural bug repellent and anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant, it can help protect against infections and is a great addition to many of our home and body products and has astringent, cleansing elements.

Licorice Root: This can help brighten the skin and reduce hyperpigmentation.

Lime: Often used simply for scent, lime oil also contains antioxidants and has antimicrobial properties. It can help brighten the skin and even out skin tone and aides in reducing hyperpigmentation.

Oregano: Oregano oil in hair care products can soothe an itchy scalp, stimulate hair growth, and reduce dandruff through a healthier scalp environment. It is antibacterial and anti-fungal.

Patchouli: Patchouli is known to reduce stress, anxiety and tension. It can help uplift mood and enhance feelings of well-being. It is a natural bug repellent and can help reduce inflammation in the body.

Peppermint: Peppermint is a natural pain reducer and can relieve respiratory issues. It has a cooling effect on the body and can stimulate blood flow. It may stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth, help control dandruff. It has been known to boost energy levels and assist with mental fatigue.

Rose: Rose oil is an excellent natural moisturizer. It is rich in antioxidants and contains anti-aging properties that combat *free radicals and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and can help even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots. It stimulates hair growth, improves texture and shine and has a calming effect on the mood.

Rosemary: Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and has antimicrobial and antifungal properties which make it effective in treating and preventing acne and other skin lesions. The astringency can tighten and reduce the appearance of pores. It is great for most skin types and is a natural toner improving overall skin texture and appearance. It can stimulate hair growth, and promote a healthy scalp, aide in dandruff control and reduce breakage by strengthening the hair shaft. Some studies suggest that rosemary oil may reduce hair loss and improve thickness and body. It is a powerhouse in hair and skin care.

Sandalwood: Anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, sandalwood is known for its hydrating properties, preventing dryness and flakiness. It has a cooling effect which can provide gentle relief from itchiness. It can impart a natural shine and vibrancy to the hair. The scent reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation.

Saw Palmetto: Often cited as a natural treatment for alopecia, saw palmetto can stimulate hair growth and increase hair density. It promotes a healthy scalp by reducing inflammation and maintaining moisture levels—helping to also prevent dandruff.

Spearmint: Spearmint smells great and can aide in opening airways and help with respiratory issues. It has a cooling effect and can assist in controlling *sebum production. It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and can improve circulation, enhancing the delivery of nutrients to the skin.

Sweet Orange: Sweet orange promotes hair and scalp health as well as shine and texture. It can stimulate blood flow and can have a brightening effect on the skin. It is rich in antioxidants and is antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. It is moisturizing and can help balance oil production and improve overall skin texture.

Tangerine: Has many of the same or similar benefits of sweet orange. It is used primarily for scent in our products.

Tea Tree: Due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties tea tree oil is a great acne treatment. It fights fungal infections and promotes healing of wounds and cuts. It can help balance oil production and alleviate dandruff.

Hyaluronic Acid:

Used in some of our facial and hair products.

A natural molecule found in the body, particularly in skin, joints, and eyes. It attracts and binds water helping to keep tissues, including the skin, well-hydrated. It can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water and can increase the skin’s elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It locks moisture into hair follicles, aides in frizz control and can add volume to the hair.

99% Isopropyl Alcohol:

Used in many of our cleaning, garden and bug repellent products.

Not all isopropyl alcohols are created alike. 99% isopropyl alcohol means it is a solution that is 99% isopropanol (also known as 2-propanol) and 1% water. It is a high-purity form of alcohol. Effective at killing a wide range of pathogens, bacteria, fungi and viruses while leaving little to no residue behind, it can be used on a wide range of surfaces. It can be diluted and mixed with a variety of other cleaning agents (not all), and is an effective degreaser. It dries (evaporates) quickly and it is a muli-tasking, nontoxic ingredient in a few of our products.

Jojoba Oil:

Used in some hair and skin products.

Jojoba oil is very moisturizing. It can help with frizz control, texture, and shine. It mimics *sebum, contains vitamins E and B, and helps scalp health and hair growth by strengthening hair follicles. It doesn’t clog pores and can leave skin smoother and more even toned.

Leucidal SF Complete:

Used in many of our hair and skin products.

It is a versatile, natural, broad spectrum antimicrobial preservative. It is derived from fermented Lactobacillus and coconut.  It has moisturizing and conditioning benefits and contains no harmful chemicals.

Magnesium Chloride Oil:

A highly concentrated solution of magnesium chloride (a natural salt compound), used in our magnesium chloride sprays. It is not an actual oil, but can mimic the texture of a light oil.

It can help with a wide range of bodily functions and ailments including, but not limited to, headaches, joint and muscle pain, regulation of blood sugar levels, constipation, hypertension, anxiety, depression, and the list goes on.

Magnesium Sulfate:

Better known as Epsom salt, used in some of our garden products.

A natural compound with a wide range of uses.

Mica:

Minerals found in nature. Used in our lip balms for colorants.

Mineral Oil (food grade):

Used diluted in our furniture cleaner.

This mineral oil is highly refined and purified to remove impurities and meet safety standards. Mineral oil is a petroleum product and is not considered readily biodegradable. It is one product we make an exception for as we have not found a suitable alternative to put in our furniture cleaner. It helps replenish and condition wood, it is colorless and will not go rancid like some other, more natural oils. It is light and dries without a sticky feel if applied correctly.

Optiphen Plus:

A broad-spectrum preservative used in personal care formulations.  It is a combination of ingredients derived from natural and synthetic sources, (phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol (and) sorbic Acid . It is biodegradable, paraben and formaldehyde-free and offers effective protection against bacteria, yeast and mold growth.

Peroxide:

Used in some of our home and body products. Peroxide is comprised of 2 hydrogen and 2 oxygen atoms.

Peroxide is used primarily as a disinfectant in our products, but can also be used as a bleaching agent and oxidizing agent.

Phenoxyethanol:

Used in some of our body products. We hope to eliminate this from our ingredients list soon.

It is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that prolongs shelf life and prevents contamination. It is biodegradable, paraben & formaldehyde free.

Potassium Sorbate:

A white, water soluble salt primarily used as a food preservative to inhibit the growth of mold, yeast and some bacteria. It is the potassium salt of sorbic acid, a naturally occurring compound found in some berries.

Rice Water:

Used in some of our hair care products. Rice water is made by soaking or boiling rice to extract its nutrients.

Rice water is nutrient rich with vitamins B, C and E as well as minerals like magnesium. It contains amino acids which can strengthen hair and reduce breakage. It improves shine, smoothness and is a natural condition and detangler. It stimulates hair growth by nourishing the scalp and improving circulation.

Rose Hydrosol:

Used in many of our hair and skin products. Rose hydrosol is a byproduct of steam distillation of rose petals. Although it is often referred to as “rosewater,” they are not the same thing. Rose hydrosol is considered a more concentrated and pure form of rose water.

Rose hydrosol is an excellent moisturizer with anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe and moistureize hair and skin. It can help balance *pH levels, tone and tighten pores and improve overall skin texture. It can help reduce dandruff and add shine to hair. It smells pretty good too.

Sesame Oil:

Used in some hair and skin products. Derived from the seeds of the sesame plant.

Rich in vitamins E & B and containing essential *fatty acids, sesame oil nourishes hair follicles promoting healthy growth. It contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritated scalp and reduce dandruff. It can strengthen hair strands, reducing breakage and split ends while improving hair elasticity. It can also provide some minimal protection against UV rays and pollution. For the skin it moisturizes and contains anti-aging properties. It can help soothe eczema and psoriasis and improve overall tone and texture while aiding in the healing of minor wounds and preventing infection.

Shea Butter:

Used in our body products.

Contains anti-inflammatory effects, and anti-aging properties.  Rich in *fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants it nourishes skin and aides in repair and protection against *free radicals. It can help minimize the appearance of stretch marks and scars. It can provide heat protection for hair, reduce brittleness, enhance elasticity and promote growth.

Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda):

Found in some of our cleaning products.

It is a great ingredient for cleaning products for many reasons. It is mildly abrasive, deodorizing, whitening, and it helps balance *pH in wash water that enhances the effectiveness of other cleaning agents. Baking soda is known to “pull” stains and odors out of fabrics, carpet and grout. Inexpensive and versatile.

Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate:

Used in some hair care products.

A mild surfactant, derived from coconut oil and glutamic acid. It’s known for its gentle cleansing properties, good foaming ability, and ability to soften hard water.

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate:

Used in some hair care products.

A gentle, plant-derived surfactant. It’s a sodium salt of the coconut *fatty acid *ester of isethionic acid, meaning it’s made from coconut oil and isethionic acid. SCI is known for its mildness, ability to create a rich lather, and is often referred to as “baby foam” due to its gentle nature.

Sorbic Acid:

A colorless, crystalline, weak acid with the chemical formula C6H8O2. It is a naturally occurring compound found in unripe berries of the rowan tree (Sorbus aucuparia). It is also produced commercially through a synthetic process. It is used in food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals as a preservative to prevent the growth of microorganisms.

Vegetable Glycerin:

Used in some of our hair and skin products. Vegetable glycerin is a clear, odorless, viscous liquid derived from plant oils, primarily soy, palm or coconut. It is commonly used in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products.

Glycerin is a humectant which means it attracts moisture from the air and helps retain it in the skin and hair. It is soothing, nondrying and doesn’t clog pores making it suitable for most skin types. It helps improve absorption of other nutrients increasing their effectiveness. It improves the overall texture of hair, reducing frizz and increasing shine. It helps stabilize formulations, ensuring consistency in texture and performance over time. It is versatile and can be used in many products.

Vitamin C:

Contains many benefits; promotes collagen production, combats free radicals, helps fade sun spots and brighten skin, can help with hair growth and fights dandruff.

Vitamin E Oil:

Used in many of our hair and body products.

A powerful antioxidant that offers numerous benefits for both hair and skin. Protects against *free radicals, moisturizes, nourishes and can help repair damaged skin. Can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Stimulates blood flow and aides in hair growth by supporting scalp health. This list could go on and on.

Witch Hazel:

Used in many of our home & body products.

Known for its astringent qualities, witch hazel is derived from the leaves and bark of the witch hazel plant. It is anti-inflammatory and contains antioxidants that protect from *free radical damage.  It can soothe insect bites, rashes and minor burns and helps control acne, tones skin and can prevent razor burn. It is a great carrier for essential oils in room sprays and bug repellents. It is a very versatile ingredient.

Xanthan Gum:

Used as a thickener in some of our products.

A natural *polysaccharide derived from bacteria and widely used as a thickener, emulsifier, and stabilizer in hair and skin products. If you have skin allergies it is wise to do a patch test if a product contains xanthan gum.

Xylitol:

Used in our oil pulling products.

A natural sugar alcohol found in plants, including many fruits and vegetables. Offers significant benefits for oral health, including reduced tooth decay and improved gum health. It works by slowing the growth of cavity-causing bacteria, inhibiting acid production, and helping to neutralize the *pH in the mouth.

*Ester: An organic compound formed through condensation. They are found in natural fats and oils where they play a crucial role in energy storage in living organisms. They are commonly used in foods and cosmetics.

*Fatty Acids: There are two main types of fatty acids, saturated and unsaturated. There is a lot to say about both…in a nutshell, and for our purposes, fatty acids are key components in cell membranes and in the synthesis of hormones. They aid in the absorption of vitamins A, D, E & K.

*Free Radicals: These are highly reactive molecules or atoms that have unpaired electrons. In this state they seek out and bond with other molecules to achieve stability which can lead to damage in our cells. They are naturally produced in the body, but can also be introduced through external sources like pollution, radiation, cigarette smoke and other chemicals. Unlike the name suggests, they are not good.

*pH Balance or pH: pH refers to the acidity or alkalinity of a substance measured on a scale of 0 to 14. A level of 7 is considered neutral, while levels below 7 indicate acidity and levels above 7 indicate alkalinity. The natural range for healthy skin is 4.5 to 5.5 (slightly acidic). The pH balance of skin and hair is crucial in maintaining their health and functionality.

*Polysaccharide: a complex carbohydrate made up of long chains of smaller carbohydrates called monosaccharides—the simplest forms of carbohydrates.

*Sebum: An oily, waxy substance produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. Over or under production can lead to skin problems. Hormones, diet, age, genetics and other health and environmental factors can influence sebum production.
